Well, the threat was certainly there. All over the local news and even the national weather channel threatened about the blizzard that was gonna hit our area. Once again folks, well good Southerners, scrambled to the grocery store to stock up on milk, eggs and bread. Why not stock up on Twinkies, ice cream and Reese Cups? Needless to say that the lines were full, people had the look of panic on their faces and kids were praying harder than ever for all the predictions to be correct. If they were, there would be no school for several days and snow men would be bigger than ever and the same old boring life that we live day after day, week after week and month after month, would change…things were going to be different…this time. But they weren’t!
The snow never arrived! The night before, kids all over our fair city were given the news that they would not have to report to school until 10am the next day because of the extreme cold and snow that was promised to blanket the area. We even had a spend the night party at the house for the senior girls. The guys came over too and Cindy fixed all sorts of fun food and snacks and they watched TV, movies, and out the windows…praying for the promised snow to fall. When they left late, too late, they searched the cold skies for the snow…none. When the girls finally fell asleep in the early morning, they said excitedly what all they would do when they wake up in the morning to face all the promised white magic. Promises…promises.
When they got up…there was nothing…not a snowdrift within hundreds of miles from here. The great promises of snow turned out to be just that…great promises. And many people were so disappointed because the promises did not take place…There was no follow through. It is that same way in the mission world.
We make great promises about how we are going to change things and get involved in missions. We go to stores and buy books, listen to messages from missionaries, watch commercials about the needs around the world and we promise to do something about it…but most times we don’t. We have good intentions…but like the promise of snow…very little follow through. I can’t help but imagine the Lord watching us from his windows, like we watched, and wonder…when will they follow through? And you know what…many…way too many…live the same ole lives, day after day, week after week, and month after month…bored to death, while the world waits on us to follow through with the promise.
We want to thank you for your continued…follow through. We can do what we do because many of you are so faithful.
This year looks to be a busy one as we begin our first short term mission trip with our own church. In Jan we will go to the Logos Hope. It will be exciting to see Nick and Emily on the ship.
Then in the coming months there is travel to…Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Nicaragua, Chile and on and on.
Thanks for all your prayer and financial support. We are blessed to have you on our team.
God Bless…Wick and Cindy and girls
